Deputy Mayor of Għajnsielem Kevin Cauchi said earlier this week that he received footage and pictures taken of Ras il-Ħobż by a diver.
He said that the footage is contrary evidence to what the Corporation of the Water Services said a week before, namely that a leak at Ras il-Ħobż was under control.
He appealed to the authorities to wake up and address this situation seriously before it gets much worse.
This is not the first time that such a leakage has taken place. A number of divers towards the end of last year reported similar leaks, including at Ras il-Ħobż. The divers reported ear infections resulting from encountering the brown dirt leaks.
There have been other occasions where there were bursts of sewage going straight into the sea, with divers reporting swimming among brown water.
No drainage; tender for repairs given out – WSC
A spokesperson for the Water Services Corporation said that a tender had been issued for repairs to the sewage inlet, which would include the refitting of a diffuser. This is the same statement that Newsbook.com.mt received in recent weeks.
The spokesperson explained that the video was now under investigation while the plant is also currently working on a solution that will be more durable than last summer. He said the Corporation is committed to continue working to improve the technology used to purify the water exiting the pipe.
