‘Unprecedented eye sore’; Locals object to San Lawrenz development

Triq il-Wileg

Almost all residents of Triq il-Wileg San Lawrenz and its surrounding area, have objected to the Planning Authority over a new building permit.

The permit (PA/10050/18), submitted by Mark Agius through architect Emmanuel Vella, would see the construction of 14 apartments within a 5 storey building.

Mr Alfred Grech who submitted the objection, says that around 90% of residents from the street and local area, support the objection on the grounds that the building will not serve the community and the need for affordable housing in the area.

Mr Grech goes further saying that it is, ‘an unprecedented eye sore and architectural monstrosity not only in the otherwise pristine environment of a traditional serene street village but also an oddity which will be viewed from afar in all directions.’

In addition to residents of the town, it is also understood that the local council and Superintendence of Heritage, have also made their objections known.

It is now up to the Planning Authority to make the next move.
