Unemployment rate for women higher than male during May 2020

During the month of May 2020, the seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate was 4.2% which means 11,423 unemployed persons and an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month.

According to this data published by the NSO, the National Statistics Office, for the month under review, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for males was 3.9% while the rate for females stood at 4.7%.

The data continues to show that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate during May 2020 for persons aged 15 to 24 years, that is the youth unemployment rate was 11.9% while the rate for those between 25 and 74 years stood at 3.2%.

The NSO has also stated that these statistics should be interpreted in the context of the COVID-19 situation.
