Undeclared cash discovered by Customs on airport passenger

    During the routine screening of passengers departing from Malta by the Customs Department’s Anti-Money Laundering Team and the Department’s K9 Unit, the Customs canine, named Peter gave an indication on a particular passenger departing to Istanbul.

    In a statement issued on Monday, the Malta Customs explained that when asked how much cash was the passenger carrying he said €5,000 but not convinced by the passenger’s answer, his belongings were searched, and €16,540 were elevated from his luggage.

    The passenger agreed to an out of court settlement agreement and fined as per legislation.
