Japan has reported five cases of the Covid-19 variant first discovered in the United Kingdom.

According to reports in The Guardian, the five cases are related to people that just returned from the UK. The individuals are in quarantine, meanwhile the authorities started contact tracing for any potential transmission.

Japan has banned access to anyone coming from the UK, the exception being for Japanese nationals and residents.

Russia is the latest country to tighten restrictions on people travelling from the UK. The new Covid-19 variant has put the UK in isolation from most countries. Japan has still to approve the anti-covid vaccine. The authorities are still struggling to control the spread of the pandemic.
