The Malta Police Force has announced the arrest of two men caught with drugs in their possession, in amounts and circumstances suggesting intent to traffic.
The two cases are not related to each other, and both men – a 31-year-old Maltese national from Marsascala and a 30-year-old Algerian national who lives in St Paul’s Bay – are to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon.
District police were carrying out traffic controls in Triq Sant’ Antnin, Marsascala on Monday night when the 31-year-old attracted their attention by seeking to stop his Suzuki by the side of the road before reaching them.
He was found not to have a valid driving licence, prompting the police to search his vehicle. 29 sachets containing a white powder, suspected to be cocaine, were found, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The 30-year-old was arrested in Balluta Square by Drug Squad police. A search yielded suspected ecstasy pills, cocaine and cannabis, seemingly prepared for sale.
