Two separate hearings for possession of cannabis were heard in court today. The two men were arrested after pleading not guilty.The men are being accused of drug trafficking, as the amount of cannabis that was found exceeded the amount that they would have used for personal use.
One of the accused, who is 25 years old, was stopped by police after pursuing his car. After searching him, the police discovered 5kg of cannabis. The police arrested the second perpetrator after the first accused admitted that he had allegedly just got the drugs from another person.
The second man, who is 40 years, was arrested in his home near Mosta. Ten kilos of cannabis and two unlicensed pistols were found in his house.
The 25-year-old is accused of breaking court conditions of freedom from arrest twice. He was arrested once in 2017 for possessing 100grams of cocaine, and again in 2018 for possessing more than 100 kg of cannabis.
Both men pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras denied the plea and the court froze their assets.
