Events to mark liturgical feast of Pope St John Paul II

The JP2 Foundation celebrated this year the Liturgical feast of Pope Saint John Paul II on Thursday 22nd October 2020, with a difference due to the restrictions concerning the pandemic.

The first event was the High Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Victoria celebrated by Vicar General Mons Tarcisio Camilleri and the Cathedral Chapter. Monsignor Joseph Sultana Archpriest of the Cathedral said the homily for the occasion.

The second event took place on Friday 23rd October 2020 at the Pope John Paul II Family Centre in Victoria, while cordially meeting Mons Anton Teuma Bishop of Gozo. Present for the meeting was Comm Carmel Zammit KCHS President, Margaret Gatt Secretary, Chev. Joe M. Attard PRO, Eric Joseph Grech event co-ordinator and Rev Chev. Can Antoine Borg Chaplin and director of Radju Marija Malta.

The foundation also embarked on a project called “Wojtyla Chant” International Melody Festival 2020. Participating in this project are a number of international organisations and identities. The festival consisted of a recital of melodies which varies from instruments to voice performances. The recitals were all recorded live and broadcasted on social media, particularly on the Youtube channel called Wojtyla Chant.

The participants hail from Albania (Tiran), Azerbaijan (Baku), Canada (Alberta and Quebec), Ireland (Galway), Italy (Loreto and Rome), Kenya (Nairobi), Malta (Gharb and Victoria), Portugal (Fatima and Sameiro), San Marino and Sweden (Stockholm).

The JP2 Foundation accepted two suggestions that were made; The festival should take place every year and to extend the timing of the festival from the 22nd October to the feast of Christ the King which falls on Sunday 22nd November 2020.
