An 86-year-old man has died after testing positive for Covid-19, the twelfth victim of the pandemic in Malta.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said that the man had tested positive for the coronavirus on 24 August, a day after he was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital for a separate health condition and tested positive for the virus following a routine swab test carried out on all hospital admissions.
The ministry said that the man had underlying health problems.
The ministry expressed its condolences to the man’s family, and appealed to the public to continue following the advice of the health authorities.
This is the second coronavirus-related death reported over two days.
On Sunday, the health authorities reported 15 new coronavirus cases after 1,909 swab tests were carried out. 69 individuals made a recovery bringing the number of active cases down to 538.
