Turning 100 during COVID-19

Georgia Galea has turned 100 years old. Born in Gozo, 100-year-old Georgia is a devotee of Saint George.

Nanna Georgia a mother of eleven children had admitted herself to the home when she turned 98 years.

Many have taken to social media to wish her well. Due to the current situation with the coronavirus outbreak, family and friends cannot visit Nanna Georgia at the elderly care home where she lives. However they are urging those who have contacts at Dar Sant’Anna at the Gozo General Hospital to show the different clips to Nanna Georgia.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna tweeted his congratulations on her 100th birthday. “Grateful for the gift of life in these times where we all understand what a delicate flower life is, and how precious!” he said.

Meanwhile her youngest daughter, Gina Hili, posted a photo showing a placard which she had prepared for her mother as she planned to stand outside and wave at her. The woman said that she could not come by for the time being and urged people who have access to social media to show Nanna Georgia what had been planned for her.

Her granddaughter, Alessandra Dee Crespo wrote on Facebook that when they informed that her party had been postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic, she replied that everything will pass.

Giuseppe Nicodemo, a family friend and a cantor in the papal choir of the Sistine Chapel recorded himself singing happy birthday to Nanna Georgia.

Former Opposition leader and Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil, who is now working in Brussels, sent her a video message on this very special day. Described as ‘Nanna Georgia’s crush’ by her granddaughter Alessandra Dee Crespo, he filmed his good wishes.
