Turkey is expected to announce the discovery of a new gas field in the eastern Mediterranean, according to international media.

According to Euronews speculation has been mounting after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would be announcing “good news” tomorrow.

Euronews has also reported that Turkey has already dispatched a drilling ship, Kanuni, with 35 personnel on board. The ship is capable of drilling 3,000 metres down at a depth of 12 thousand metres from the southern Turkish port of Mersin to an undisclosed area.

This move by the Turkish President will lead to a further escalation of tension with the European Union especially with EU states Greece and Cyprus.
