Maltese tuna fishermen will be entitled to €2 for every kg of the quota allocated by the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department.

This comes after the COVID-19 pandemic which is presenting challenges for the global and EU economy. €720,000 in national funds are being allocated for tuna fishermen with vessels registered as MFA and MFB and that were allocated a tuna quota for 2020.

Minister Anton Refalo stated that this financial aid is due to the fact that fish consumption has decreased, due to a number of factors related to COVID-19. There have also been difficulties in exporting fish. Therefore, forms have been issued to the fishermen in question. The form may also be accessed via the Department’s Facebook page.

Those who wish to apply should send the form via post, along with the other requested documents, to the Department by not later than Monday 22nd September. Any difficulties may be addressed by calling the Department for further information on 22926845 or 22926831.
