Trees were uprooted and replanted elsewhere in order to avoid accidents.
The trees were uprooted on Thursday from Triq il-Ħamrija with the Ministry for Gozo informing Newsbook.com.mt that the trees had not been felled but relocated to Ulysses Grove.
The replanting process happened under the watch of officials from the Gozo Rural Directorate. The Ministry explained that the palm trees were removed in order to reduce the risk of incidents in the area.
Many residents expressed their disappointment and anger as the trees in Triq Ħamrija have been there for a number of years.
A Gozitan said that some parts of the island are starting to resemble Syria. Others said that Gozo is turning into a “concrete jungle” like Malta. A woman added that the works have been the cause of several incidents.
