Traffic accidents: A 6% decrease over April – June 2017

Most road traffic accidents are likely to happen between midday and 14.59 during the day. This emerged from a recent statistic published by the National Statistics Office (NSO). While the least traffic accidents are registered between 3.00 and 5.59 in the morning.

In the second quarter of 2018, 3,837 road traffic accident were registered which meant a 6% decrease over last year’s second quarter. From the statistic it emerged that 71.8% of the people in the registered traffic accidents were grievously injured, the majority of which were men. The statistic also showed that most traffic accident happened on a Thursday however most people got hurt on a Monday.

From January to June 2018 most traffic accidents were registered in Birkirkara (579) while the least amount of traffic accidents were registered in Xgħajra (13).

On Malta’s sister island, Gozo, most traffic accidents took place in Rabat (122) while the least were registered in Kerċem (2).

Most traffic accidents involved passenger cars (58.5%) followed by motorcycles (22.8) followed by goods – carrying vehicles (8.3%)
