The traditional Maltese Crib will be on exhibition at the Christmas market at the University of Vienna. In previous years, the crib was installed in Vatican Square (2016), in Manger Square, Bethlehem (2017) and Valletta.

Structural changes were needed due to the change in weather, however most of the original statues will be retained for the exhibition. Gozitan artist Manwel Grech had created the statues, while Jennings Falzon designed the cave which was manufactured with the help of Norman Hill.

In a statement the government said that the group was guided by the Cultural Directorate headed by Emanuel Vella, Perit Paul Buhagiar and Herbert Debattista.

Culture Minister Owen Bonnici announced that the crib will be installed in Vienna during a press conference on Friday.

The traditional Maltese crib will be inaugurated on November 15, during a ceremony for which President George Vella and Owen Bonnici will be present. Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig is also expected to attend. A Maltese choir will be singing Christmas songs in Maltese near the crib.
