The parents of students attending the Thi Lakin School in Attard – which is set to be demolished to make way for apartment blocks – are being urged to register their children in state schools, Education Minister Justyne Caruana confirmed.

This was the only remedy suggested by Caruana in reply to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo, who asked whether any solutions could be found in the face of the school’s eventual closure. Arrigo suggested that the school could possibly be relocated elsewhere.

The minister did not address this proposal, but added that the ministry is keeping in touch with the affected families to help them in any way possible.

The Planning Authority received a development application on 19 October from David Psaila, who is both the applicant and the architect for the proposed project.

According to this application, which is still being assessed, the school – an independent nursery, kindergarten and primary school – would be demolished to make way for three apartment blocks comprising 24 apartments in total, 4 maisonettes, 39 garages and a retail outlet.
