Gozo Bishop Mario Grech has warned a newly ordained priest that he will not be a bureaucrat or sacred servant but rather a channel of the Holy Spirit.
Bishop Mario Grech made these comments recalling the memory of Deacon Fr Elijah with Michael Mifsud and seminarian Mario Mercieca, during the Sacred ordination held at the Cathedral on Friday.
Bishop Grech pointed out what the Great St Theresa used to say on the Holy Spirit, ie without “his love to engage and change, every effort for man to become perfect is lost in vain”.
In his homily the Bishop quoted many great saints of the Orthodox tradition, as well as the teaching of Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis, to remind the ordained that the Eucharist, which is the heart of their ministry, is about, “enduring Pentecost. Even if you find yourselves facing moral poverty, keep on calling upon you the Spirit of God who alone has the ability to guide you to step onto the threshold of the mystery and help others do the same steps “.
