Wied Qirda’s gorge is being neglected and The Planning Authority should be held responsible, as it did not take action against the Minister for Infrastructure and other entities, said the Partit Demokratiku (PD).
The PD have made this statement in the face of the widening of a stretch of illegal terrain creating access to private property across the valley, so as to create a parking area in the valley. According the the PD this was surfaced by Transport Malta with tarmac, with EU funds earmarked for rural roads’ upgrade.
Wied Qirda divides the confines of Haz-Zebbug and Siggiewi and is renowned for its spectacular rocky faced gorge lined with carob, olive, almond and bay laurel trees and for its picturesque wayside Chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Visitation and a neighbouring Dejma post. It is also a Natural Reserve and a Special Area of Conservation of National importance which is also declared as a tree Protected Area, said the PD.
