The GWU in favour of family leave

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) said that it is in favour of family leave that allows parents to be more involved in their childrens’ upbringing.

This proposal was put forward by Labour MEP Miriam Dalli. She explained that child rearing is not a one parent job, and that it is important to consider how families’ needs are changing.

Dalli went on to say that family leave means that more women are able to work, and that when applying for a job, the chances of an employer preferring to hire a man over a woman because of maternity leave are lessened.
