Gozo´s Gaulitanus Choir will be representing Malta in the 20th edition of the Rencontres Musicales de Mediterranee in Corsica, France in early November.
This follows an invitation by the Jeunesses Musicales de Mediterranee of Bastia, which organises this annual festival featuring artistic groups from various Mediterranean countries.
During an intensive week of cultural events, the musical strains of groups from Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Monaco, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Malta and Corsica itself, will reverb in the serenity of several Corsican localities creating an exciting kaleidoscope of different cultures.
During the festival, the Gozitan choir´s artistic commitments will include a fully-fledged concert at the Municipal Hall in Cervione – where the choir will be flanked by the Corsican ensemble A Riuccata, as well as a presentation at a school in Cervione as part of the festival´s educational programme. During both events, it will present Maltese music.
The choir will also take part in the festival´s concluding Gala Concert at Bastia´s Theatre Municipal, along with all the other participating groups. Apart from a slot during which it will interpret some Maltese excerpts, the choir will feature in the grand finale which brings the festival to an end. Indeed, a Corsican song composed by Georges De Zerbi will be interpreted by a Corsican soloist and the choir accompanied by the festival´s orchestra.
The Gaulitanus Choir will thus be re-appearing at the Rencontres following 3 previous highly successful appearances in 2001, 2002 and 2007. The choir´s soloists also participated in 2015, while its musical director, Colin Attard, who will also be leading the Gozitan choir this time round, featured in various other editions.
This will be the Gaulitanus Choir’s 15th foray abroad and the second this year, following its very successful London concert-tour this September.
