Partit Demokratiku (PD) said that the European Union (EU) needs to find a way of controlling migration now that the migration season has started again. The PD is suggesting that the EU prioritises the Libyan issue else people will keep on dying.

PD said this in a press release issued right after 65 migrants lost their lives in the sea off the Libyan coast and another 85 migrants were saved by the Armed Forces of Malta. According to the PD this is a clear indication that the EU is successful yet in migration and asylum seekers’ issues.

PD Secretary General Martin Cauchi Inglott said that the people are realising that the EU is only capable to come up with short-term solutions. Cauchi Inglott added that the only solution that could address this human struggle is enforcement on its policy on migration and foreigners, particularly those with Libyan ties. He insisted that the EU needs to prioritise the Libyan question.

PD leader Godfrey Farrugia said that climate change is affecting the African continent, and such is also effecting migration. PD MP Marlene Farrugia said that it is hazardous and inhumane to leave migrants at sea.
