Tattooed and pierced persons may donate blood

The National Blood Transfusion Service would like to advice the general public that tattooed persons may donate blood.

The Unit receives a substantial amount of questions related to the topic as many persons are now sporting tattoos on their skin.

Tattooed persons are eligible to donate blood as long as the tattoos are older than six months. This also applies to pierced persons and individuals who have undergone some acupuncture treatment.

The National Blood Transfusion Service is also urging those wishing to donate blood to convince others to join them.
