Euro zone unemployment at 8.4% – Eurostat

The results show that almost fourteen million people in the Eurozone are unemployed. The global number of people unemployed in whole of the European Union is estimated at just over sixteen million or 7.6% of the population.

Labour Force Survey finds depressed wages, increased unemployment

The average monthly basic salary for employees in Malta in the second quarter of 2020 was estimated at €1,491, a drop of 8.6% when compared to the previous year, according to the latest edition of the Labour Force Survey published by the National Statistics Office.

In May 2020, when compared with April 2020, 253,000 people living in the EU lost their jobs, with 159,000 of them living in the euro area.

The Covid-19 pandemic continued to contribute to a rise in unemployment last month, with the number of registered unemployed increasing by 430 in May.
