The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) has declared a trade dispute with the Secretariat for Catholic Education about the 23 Church schools which are in breach of working conditions of educators.
MUT said that it expects the government to have its communication procedures in place to inform affected educators, students and parents immediately and to ensure that all respective health measures are taken right away.
It accused the Ministry of ignoring its questions
In its appeals to the government, the MUT has made it clear that it is the Government’s responsibility to take measures so that the pandemic is under control, as this affects the re-opening plans.
MUT said that the MATSEC syllabi determine what happens in secondary schools and has described the mitigation measures ‘as a joke.’
The union also said that directives and guidelines issued for certain work places cannot be implemented in schools as schools are a different kind of workplace.
