The Malta Police Force was given over 100 cases to follow by the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) over 2019.
In two separate warnings, the Malta Financial Services Authority warned against Coinmalex, an entity that purports to operate from an address in Malta and claims to "offer trust assets management of the highest quality on the basis of profitable CryptoCurrency trading through Crypto exchanges".
This was part of the very strong anti-corruption message published by the Catholic Bishops of Slovakia. Their denunciation of widespread “fraud and corruption” was released just days before last weekend’s general election. Igor Matovic’s Party of Ordinary People won the election which it fought on a very strong anti-corruption message.
A police spokesperson told this newsroom that Assistant Commissioner Nezren Grixti who heads two units - the Rapid Intervention Unit and the Special Intervention Unit will be also heading the Traffic Unit. This means that Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cassar will no longer head the section.
The case of a 42-year-old man who was freed in a court judgement is set for appeal by the prosecution.
