Criticisms pour in about COVID-19 fines amnesty

Criticisms have been pouring in from a number of entities following the Prime Minister's announcement of amnesty being given to those fined for not following the COVID-19 social distancing measures. Prime Minister Robert Abela was being interviewed on One Radio this morning.

65 fines for groups of more than 4 persons

No one found breaching obligatory quarantine

Police were deployed on Mellieħa Bypass, St Paul's Bay Bypass, Kennedy Drive Road, and the Coast Road to monitor motorists throughout the day.

96 persons were each fined €100 during the continuous patrols that the Police are doing in order to ensure that there are no groups of more than 3 people in public places, as per legal notice published by the government.

Fifty people were fined €100 each after they were found to be in groups of 4 or more people.

Highest daily recorded Covid-19 cases; 8 individuals fined €100

Eight individuals were fined €100 each after gathering in public in groups over three individuals and therefore in breach of one of the latest measures implemented in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus in the community.

Ten people were caught breaching quarantine rules during 440 inspections carried out by the Police and the Health Authorities. The individuals were €3,000 each.
