Reacting a parliamentary question on school attendance, the Officer of the Commissioner for Children reiterated its concerns on absenteeism as it called on all the relevant authorities to ensure that all children are guaranteed their right to education.
In a statement published on Saturday, Repubblika said its greatest concern is that ‘the government's failures are resulting in the provision of unequal quality of education to children which varies according to the category of school they attend that is; state, church or independent schools- and the resources at its disposal.
Students started receiving their SEC and Matriculation results of the examinations held in September as from Friday. The results will be communicated via SMS and by post.
The new school will have 16 classrooms for primary education and ten classrooms for kindergarten. Classrooms for specific subjects such as science, information technology and the arts will also be built. The school will be spread on 8,000 square metres, of which 3,000 will be for sports and recreational use.
The union is insisting that the situation is no longer under control as the country continues to experience a surge in coronavirus cases.
Mr Caruana Carabez was appointed as Commissioner for Education on 1 September 2017.

In two separate Facebook posts, the union said that it has been notified that a teacher and a grade two student have tested positive for coronavirus at Chiswick House School while in a separate post the union said that the head of the Sacred Heart junior school has tested positive for coronavirus.
The government said that a total of 5,489 students went to school on Wednesday. Of the pupils in kindergarten Year II 60% showed to class, followed by 77% of Year Six primary students and 78% of Year nine students.
