The Augustinian Community in Gozo within the Augustinian Province together with the JP2 Foundation will be commemorating the first month from the death of His Eminence Cardinal Prospero Grech who passed away on the 30th December 2019.
Cardinal Prospero Grech was born as Stanley Grech in Birgu in 1925. He took the name Prospero when he joined the Augustinian Order in 1943. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1950 at St John Lateran Basilica. He was the second Maltese priest to be elevated as a cardinal.
The Augustinian Province in Malta explained that Cardinal Grech's body will be brought over to Malta on Wednesday, in a statement. People can pay their last respects to the Cardinal on Thursday morning at St Mark's Convent in Rabat. A book of condolences will also be available for the public to sign.
'Cardinal Grech was a religious of great doctrine and deep spirituality, who loved the Church and religious life,' Cardinal Re said, underlining that Cardinal Prospero always placed God first.
A photography exhibition by Cardinal Prospero Grech held under the patronage of the president was inaugurated on Monday evening.
