The Nationalist Party Candidate for the European Parliament elections Roberta Metsola, said that the Labour Party’s support for President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, is not in Malta’s best interest.
She explained that the Nationalist Party does not want to have tax harmonization across Europe, that had just been announced by Frans Timmermans.
This was delivered in a statement in which the topic was discussed during a press conference at the PN headquarters, with the Opposition Spokesman for Finance Mario de Marco and PN candidates for MEP elections Roberta Metsola and Roselyn Borg Knight.
According to the PN, if successful, Timmermans’ plan would have major repercussions and negative impacts on employment in several sectors particularly in financial services and gaming.
Mario de Marco said that before Malta joined the European Union, the Nationalist government had negotiated the right for the country to take decisions on the tax system in Malta.
Borg Knight said the PN manifesto contains proposals for strengthening the economy, with PN MEPs serving as Malta economic ambassadors.
The PN is the threat – PL
In reaction to this the Labour Party said that the greatest threat to the financial system, including how Malta is taxed, is the PN. The PL said that the PN was side by side with those who attacked the Maltese financial system.
