Summer Carnival called off after well-known enthusiast fatally electrocuted

The Summer Carnival has been called off after a well-known enthusiast was fatally electrocuted while working on a float on Thursday.

Jean-Paul Bonnett from Ħamrun died on Thursday afternoon. 

In a statement the Culture Ministry announced that the Summer Carnival activities planned for this weekend will not take place.

Police said that the incident happened at 4.05pm. An ambulance was called to Xatt il-Mollijiet but Bonnett had died on the spot.

In its statement the Ministry expressed sorrow at the tragic loss.

“He was one of the best in the carnival sector and for a long times leader of one of the main companies,” the Ministry said.
