Minister for Finance Edward Scicluna announce in his presentation for the estimates for 2020 that persons receiving the disability pension will have this raised at par with the minimum wage. this will mean a net increase of € 11.40 weekly and an estimated 650 persons are set to benefit from this increase. Moreover, parents with children with rare illnesses will be accredited with 8 years of National Insurance contributions to make good for any time off which these parents would have to take to care for their children.
Another benefit announced was the grant for special apparatus. This almost double and has now been set at € 1000 from its former level of € 600.

A helpline for disabled persons and their families was also announced and a professional development program was also announced to ensure that those who work with disabled persons are fully trained and qualified.
