The Facebook profile of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat could have been added into hate groups without consent.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that one should not necessarily accept a Facebook invitation to be part of that group but may be added without consent.

Muscat was answering a Parliamentary Question by Nationalist MP Simon Busuttil after Muscat’s profile was recently issued by some groups to be used in hate groups and which generate and disseminate hate about people, especially to his political opponents.

Even Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi had disclosed this information in Parliament.

In his question, Busuttil was making reference to the story that appeared on the site The Shift which revealed the existence of hate groups against the Archbishop, the memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia and various exponents of the PN.

The Prime Minister said that his active political page, @josephmuscatdotcom, is his official page and verified by Facebook itself.

He said that this page is not a member of any group on Facebook.

On the other hand, there is also a Facebook profile, which is distinct from the official Facebook page. On this profile, the Prime Minister said that he is informed that any Facebook group can add someone else’s profile as a member of any Facebook group without the need to accept that profile.
