Talcum powder costs Johnson & Johnson $4.7 billion in indemnity

Johnson & Johnson, the international pharmaceutical company which, among other things, produces talcum powder, was ordered to pay $4.7 billion to 22 women who developed ovarian cancer after using their baby powder.

The Court in St. Louis,Missouri, ordered the company to pay $550 million in compensation and $4.1 billion in damages to these women. The verdict was given as several pharmaceutical companies are currently battling around 9,000 legal cases involving the use of talcum powder.

Johnson & Johnson announced that they will appeal this specific Court decision.
