Spirited debate on national holiday

The question of whether Independence Day should be the only national holiday in Malta is a current trending issue on social media.

Out of those reading Newsbook.com.mt in Maltese and English, 56% agree that Independence Day should be the only National Day; 42% disagree whilst 2% are uncertain. The majority agreed that Independence Day should be the only National Day as it marks the day when Malta became and independent state free from the shackles of colonialism. Those that disagree are of the belief that even though Malta became independent on the 21st of September of 1964, the Queen was still the Highest State Authority.
