Spain calls Italy ‘egoist’

The Spanish Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, called the Italian government an ‘egoist’ in the wake of another spate of illegal imigrants at sea this time aboard the ship Lifeline. In an interview with the journal ‘El Pais’, Sanchez said in that in the European Union, governments who adhere to anti-Europe ideologies still exist, and nationalism is spreading further. He claimed that this resulted from the lack of solidarity he felt the European Union has displayed in the past.

Spain, has once again offered to help Malta, should the ship Lifeline require humanitarian assistance.

The Maltese Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat is to meet the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, in a Summit called for by the President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker. Germany’s, France’s, Spain’s, Austria’s and Bulgaria’s leaders will also be present.
