Alternattiva Demokratika has filed its objection to the proposed development of a six storey hotel in Għadira valley, saying its construction is outside the development zone.
The objection was presented by AD’s Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo and the local council hopeful Luke Caruana.
Caruana argues that the location of the hotel development, under PA/03488/19, is within a valley and external to the development boundaries, land which ‘should be protected’ and ‘not be considered for development under any circumstance.’
He adds that the development areas, ‘are already too large and there is no reason to extend them for commercial interests to the detriment of the environment.’
The planning application under the Applicant: Carol Peralta and Architect: Charles Buhagiar envisages the;
‘Excavation of site and construction of 3 star apart-hotel (Class 3B) and ancillary facilities comprising, 38 parking spaces in basement levels, four retail spaces (Class 4b) and one restaurant (Class 4D), two bars and lounges (Class 4C), gym area and two pools (Class 3C), 118 guest rooms over six floors (Class 3B), landscaping work including maintenance of rubble walls.’
AD adds that the proposed development is also close to the Omm il-Ħniena Cemetery. They state this will have implications should the plan be to extend the cemetery.
The application is currently, ‘awaiting recommendation.’
