Six people have been arrested after the Drug Squad carried out a raid in Mġarr, Gozo, this weekend.

Informed sources told that the raid was carried at around 12:30am on Saturday, in a bar which had been under surveillance for weeks. Police had observed that this bar had been opening in secret, allegedly for the purpose of drug trafficking.

The police found 12 people in the bar, and a number of them – including the bar’s owner – were found to be in possession of cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy. Six people – three men and three women – were arrested.

The twelve were also fined for restrictions on public gatherings relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, while the bar’s owner incurred an additional fine for opening the bar in defiance of these regulations.

The Drug Squad has made other arrests relating to drug trafficking in recent days, in Valletta and in Paola.
