Bishop of Gozo Mgr. Mario Grech stressed that Jesus carries his cross right along with every person who is struggling, and yet, he questioned our attitude as we stand before God, when our brothers and sisters are struggling as we are.
Bishop Grech said this in the Basilica of Agony in Gethsemane, on the foothill of Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, as part of the Diocesan Pilgrimage in the Holy Land.
According to Mgr. Grech, many know what it is to hit rock bottom. He went on to say that in Getsemane, Jesus had hit rock bottom, as he had understood the limits of human existence. He went on to say that Jesus carries his cross right along with every person who is struggling, and yet, he questioned whether we do the same when faced with others who are struggling. He called for us to shoulder our responsibility when faced with all struggle and pain.
“There is a risk that humanity turns a blind eye to that which threatens life”
Bishop Mario Grech said that there is a risk that humanity turns a blind eye to that which threatens life. According to the Bishop, the disciples ignored the threats to Jesus’s life. He said that today, people are able to do the same. He added that such threats are not only limited to abortion, but also each and every time actions or words demean humanity.
