Minister of Education Justyne Caruana confirmed that there is a shortage of LSEs in Gozo due to the Covid-19 situation. She said that the shortage results from the smaller size of the pool of LSEs usually available for replacement. In previous years this was supplemented by LSEs on maternity leave but due to Covid-19 this cannot be done this year as pregnant women are considered to be vulnerable persons.

The Minister was answering questions tabled in Parliament by Dr Kevin Cutajar, Nationalist MP.

The Minister answered that any educator transferred from Malta to Gozo is chosen according to seniority.

When asked how many LSEs where transferred to Gozo in the current year. Caruana confirmed that out of the 214 LSE working in Malta 12 will be transferred to Gozo.
