A 28-year-old man sought to make a run for it as he was being escorted to the Corradino Correctional Facility to start serving a prison sentence on Wednesday afternoon, though his bid for freedom proved to be short-lived.

The man, a Sudanese national, was handcuffed inside a police car which had just reached the entrance of the prison at around 12:30pm when he fled running.

The police officer escorting him immediately gave chase, and district and Rapid Intervention Unit officers provided their assistance.

Ultimately, the prisoner was found in Paola a few minutes later.
