Currently, sewage is flowing directly into the sea at Xatt l-Ahmar Bay in Gozo.

The Deputy Mayor of Għajnsielem has also confirmed the case describing it as “completely unacceptable”.

Last May, the Water Services Corporation had issued a tender to repair the damage contained in the outlet of the drainage pipe that runs 80 meters below water level and goes 140 meters off the coast of Xatt l-Aħmar.

In recent years, a number of people including divers that make their descent from Xatt l-Aħmar, reported that it was overflowing with sewage. Even the Democratic Party called for immediate action.

The Water Services Corporation later contacted Newsbook.com.mt, who insisted the installation is working as intended, and the incident broadcasted is not due to damages in the urban drainage system, under its management.
