Power cut due to fault at Delimara power plant

Power cuts affected several localities around Malta and Gozo on Thursday afternoon. Enemalta in a Facebook status said that the interruption was due to a fault in the gas plant at Delimara. It added that the supply was back to normal in most of the affected areas except for parts of Marsascala, San Gwann, St Julians, Mosta, Marsa, Marsaxlokk and Hamrun.

Several localities experience power cuts

Reports are coming in of multiple power cuts happening in several localities around the islands.

Several individuals took to social media to report power cuts in various localities including Naxxar, Ħamrun, Żejtun, Għargħur, St Julian’s, Lija, Birkirkara, Gudja, Fgura, Attard, Mosta, San Ġwann, Sliema, Rabat, Mdina, Marsascala, Żabbar, Swieqi, Mosta, Għasri and Balzan.

Enemalta plc in a Facebook status informed that certain difficulties were encountered within the electric supply system; “This resulted in shedding which led to disruptions in the electricity supply in some areas around the country,” the company said.

Enemalta added that it is addressing the matter to restore the electricity supply in the shortest possible time.

On 23 December the second mass power outage affected the whole island. It was later discovered that the interconnector sustained damage due to a vessel’s anchor. The company commissioned a survey vessel which assessed the damage done to the interconnector.
