Brazilian Alisson Becker is set to become the most expensive goalkeeper in the world after Liverpool agreed a €70m fee with Serie A side Roma.
Alisson cut short his post World Cup holiday so as to fly to Liverpool for the necessary medical tests. The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who also attracted the interest of other major European clubs, will replace the error prone Loris Karius. The latter made two costly mistakes in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid and his days at the Kop seem to be numbered.
Alisson has been at Roma for two years, and played 37 Serie A games last season. The fee Liverpool are paying will overtake the €53m paid by Juventus to Parma for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.
