German Migrant Rescue NGO Sea Eye, has appealed to the Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, to assist their vessel the ‘Alan Kurdi’ with the disembarkation of asylum seekers they had rescued.
They explain in their social media post that the NGO had rescued 13 people from a wooden boat and the Maltese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre had taken responsibility for the operation by phone and email correspondence. A few hours later, they relinquished responsibility, ‘without explanation,’ the captain explains.
Dear Prime Minister@JosephMuscat_JM , this statement from our Head of Mission is for you. #Responsibility cannot be used like a light switch. Please help #AlanKurdi now.
P.S. Dear Followers, with every #retweet there is a greater chance that the PM will notice the post. 🔊 pic.twitter.com/dQBRudpp3S

‘The Alan Kurdi is not part of the European Border control. We do not have a duty to check passports.’
Sea Eye is appealing to the Prime Minister not to his responsibility ‘like a light switch,’ that can be turned on and off.
