Gozo Bishop Mario Grech said that religious tourism on the island has been strengthened thanks to the completion of six projects in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo.

In a statement, the Ministry for Gozo said that six restoration projects were recently completed as part of a wider project  worth €2 million obtained through European funds.

The projects include the restoration of the Għasri parish church facade, one of the bell towers of the Immaculate Conception church in Qala, the parvis of the Santa Luċija church, the bell tower of the Sannat church, the interior of the Church of St Paul in Marsalforn and works on the Xagħra church.

Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana said that a number of these interventions were well-needed. She said that they should ensure Gozo’s cultural heritage to be preserved and passed on to future generations.

Mgr. Mario Grech said that such projects continue to strengthen Gozo’s religious aspect which is thriving. He looked favourably upon further collaborations between the Maltese state and the Gozitan Diocese.
