The Court of Criminal Appeal has reduced the imprisonment term of the man that was found guilty of injury and battery on the person of advocate Tonio Azzopardi. The case happened 13 years ago.

Judge Giovanni Grixti decided that 39-year-old Philip Camilleri was guilty on seven counts instead of eight. The man will serve three years instead of the four previously awarded.

In 2006, Camilleri and his father had attached the lawyer Tonio Azopardi in his office over a disagreement related to an €11,600 deposit. The attack had left Azzopardi with a perforated eardrum.

During court proceedings, it came to light that the two were not Azzopardi’s clients. Azzopardi was legal aid counsel for the father’s wife in a case against Philip Camilleri’s father.

Philip Camilleri’s father had died during the hearing of the case in Court.
