“Read every day” Miss World Malta tells young people

Nicole Vella, who will soon be representing Malta in the Miss World contest in London, visited Rabat B primary school St Nicholas College as a Reading Ambassador.

During the activity, organised by the National Literacy Agency, Vella, along with Reading Ambassadors Carmel Busuttil and Saviour Darmanin, read stories in Maltese and English to Year 6 pupils. Following the reading sessions, the pupils had the opportunity to discuss the benefits of reading with the ambassadors, as well as ask them questions about their reading habits and the influential role reading plays in their lives.

Vella encouraged the pupils to read every day, and advised them that it is not enough to have dreams and aspirations as you have to work hard to achieve your goals. Apart from being a model, Vella is a University student reading for a degree in a Psychology, as well as a dancer and singer.

The aim of the Reading Ambassadors programme is to promote a positive attitude towards reading through organised activities in schools involving local personalities. The group of Reading Ambassadors includes singers, actors, footballers, presenters, broadcasters and journalists.
