The Maltese civil society organisation Repubblika has condemned the appointment of Ramona Attard as a member of the planning appeals board. In a press statement, Repubblika said that Attard’s credentials are purely partisan.
In the Malta Government Gazette, it was announced that the former Labour journalist Ramona Attard, has been appointed as a member of the planning appeals board.
Attard was also an OPM official and has worked within the former Prime Minister’s communications office.
Repubblika said it feels disgusted that a person, closely affiliated with a political party and the Labour government, is appointed on a board of the Planning Authority which should work independently from the government or partisan interest.
The NGO said that all those who have worked very closely with former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who resigned because of allegations linking his officials at Castille to the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, are now being awarded positions and jobs within various government entities.
Repubblika described this decision as soviet-style and therefore are the opposite of good governance and meritocracy.
