Public consultation: restricting single-use-plastic and plastic bags

An online public consultation has been launched on two new legislative initiatives aimed at restricting the placement on the market of certain Single-Use-Plastic (SUP) items and lightweight plastic carrier bags.

In a statement, the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) outlined that these initiatives are in line with a 2020 Budget Measure as well as the EU SUP Directive and Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive. The aim is to reduce the environmental impacts generated by certain SUP items and single-use lightweight plastic carrier bags, while also promoting the transition to a circular economy with more sustainable alternatives.

A public meeting is going to be held online on Thursday 12th November at 3pm. One can register for the meeting here.

The consultation was launched by ERA, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Change and Planning (MECP).
