Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci was insulted outside PBS after her interview on Dissett late on Wednesday evening.

The police confirmed that a police report was filed over the incident.

A woman, who apparently is involved in driving instructions, waited for Professor Gauci outside the building. She then proceeded to insult Professor Gauci upon exiting the building.

The incident happened at around 10.15pm, the police told this newsroom. No injuries were reported.

The national broadcaster, PBS, reported that the police was called on site. Professor Gauci was prevented from entering into her car and was subsequently escorted.

From the footage published by TVM, the issue appears to surround the decision to first suspend all driving lessons only to revoke the decision within a few days.

The Malta Driving Instructor Association dissociated itself from the incident. In a statement the association condemned the verbal assault.

The membership of the woman who was involved in the altercation, was revoked by the association.

The MDIA thanked the Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci for her work as well as the health authorities.
